We’ve already covered the basics of EVE Online in our Beginner’s Guide. But today, we’re here to talk about mining. Mining in EVE Online is the best way to gain some ISK when first starting the game.
Types and Basics of Mining
There are three subcategories of mining in EVE Online:
- Ore Mining
- Ice Mining
- Gas Mining
Ore Mining is the basic mining of EVE Online. The first thing you need to learn are the skills required to do it efficiently. These skills are Astrogeology, Mining and Mining Upgrades.
Ore Mining is performed on asteroids around the galaxy. The faster you mine asteroids, more of them will spawn over time. So you don’t have to worry about running out of asteroids if you are mining too quickly.
The best thing to do after your ship is full of ore is to go to a station and sell it. It’s the best way to make money when starting. Later, you will gain special refining skill, which you can use to refine the ore and sell it for a higher price, thus effectively increasing your profit from mining.
The first ship you should get specifically for ore mining is the Venture. It’s a frigate from the ORE corporation.
The basic requirement to mine in the Venture is to have the skill at level 1. Spaceship Command at level 1 and Frigates at level 1. When you have enough ISK you should purchase the Venture and a couple of Miner I’s.
The next best thing
You should now spend some time training your refining skills to increase the profit which can be made from your ore. Best way to do this is to increase your refining skills to levels IV and V to get the best gain from your mined ore.
Overall, the economy in EVE Online is complicated when you first start up the game. But I assure you, over time you will get the hang of it and will learn the ins and outs of its systems. But until then, just keep your eyes on that ore and keep grinding.
